An unofficial tracker for the MDC fish stocking hotline.

What is this?

The Missouri Department of Conservation runs a daily phone hotline (636-300-9651) that lists which lakes in the St. Louis region were just stocked with fish. The hotline is the official source — but it's a phone call, and you have to listen to the whole message to find your lake.

STL Stocked calls that hotline once every evening, transcribes the recording, parses out the stocking events, and publishes them on this website. You can browse all the St. Louis-area lakes that participate in MDC's Urban Fishing Program, see when each was last stocked, and subscribe to email alerts for the lakes you actually fish.

How it works

  1. Once a day, a small computer in St. Louis places a call to the MDC hotline.
  2. The recording is transcribed locally with a speech-recognition model.
  3. The transcript is parsed into structured stocking events.
  4. Lake names are fuzzy-matched against the official MDC roster.
  5. New events are stored, posted on the site, and emailed to anyone subscribed to that lake.

How alerts work

We don't use passwords. You enter your email, we send you a magic link; click it and you're signed in. From there, tap the heart on any lake and we'll email you when that lake is stocked. One email per stocking cycle (we batch multiple lakes together so you don't get spammed), with a one-click unsubscribe in every message.

Privacy

Short version: we collect the minimum we need to send you the emails you asked for, and we don't share any of it with anyone.

What we collect

  • Your email address (so we can send you the magic link and the alerts).
  • The list of lakes you've subscribed to (so we know which alerts to send).
  • Sign-in timestamps and a session cookie (so you stay signed in).
  • Anonymous visit counts for the admin's internal usage stats — page paths only, no IPs or user identifiers logged for visits.

That's the entire list. No names, no phone numbers, no addresses, no analytics or tracking pixels, no advertising IDs.

How we use it

  • To deliver the email alerts you signed up for.
  • To let you sign in and manage your subscriptions.
  • Nothing else. No newsletters, no marketing, no profiling.

Who we share it with

  • No one. We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise distribute your information to third parties.
  • The only third party that touches your email address at all is Resend, our email-sending provider — they need it to deliver the message to your inbox. They're bound by their own privacy policy and don't use your data for anything else.
  • We don't run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other tracker.

How to remove your data

  • Click the unsubscribe link in any alert email — removes that one lake.
  • Sign in and remove all your favorites — stops all alerts.
  • Email [email protected] and we'll delete your user record entirely. Usually same day.

If you have any other privacy questions or concerns, just email us. This is a small personal project — there's an actual person reading that inbox.

Caveats

  • Transcription isn't perfect. Sometimes the speech model mishears a lake name or fish species. We do our best to fuzzy-match and correct, but always verify with the MDC's official page or by calling the hotline yourself if accuracy matters.
  • This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or run by the Missouri Department of Conservation. It's a personal project that consumes their public hotline.
  • Fishing licenses, regulations, and Urban Fishing Program rules are all governed by MDC — see their site for what's required.
